Water Wars

“Wars of the future will be fought over water, as they are over oil today, as our Blue Gold, the source of human survival, enters the global marketplace…” – Blue Gold: World Water Wars

Consumption, increasing populations and the  severe overdevelopment of agriculture and industry demand increasing fresh water requirements far beyond the finite supply – resulting in the desertification of earth.

Top that off with continued pollution and wastage of water at exponential levels. Corrupt governments use water as  economic/political leverage, even resulting in military control of water and power struggle, leading to the staging of world water wars; whilst people fight for their basic right to water.

As Maude Barlow (Chairperson, Food & Water Watch) proclaims, “This is our revolution, this is our war”. A line is crossed as water becomes a commodity. Will we survive? We are in a generation of water wars, which naturally compels us to be water warriors – to defend water’s sanctity and our appreciation of it as our life source.
